New York State Conservative Party appears poised to abandon
its conservative principles again
By Tim Andrews
The New York State Conservative Party which just last
year supported antigun and pro-abortion U. S. Senate candidate Rick Lazio appears
poised again to abandon its conservative principles and support
Republican George Pataki for a third term as New Yorks governor.
A recent Associated Press (AP) story called New York State Conservative
Party Chairman Michael Long an ally of Governor Pataki. Long was also quoted
as saying that, "he doubted Pataki would face any primary for the Conservative
Party nomination."
Just last year Pataki proposed and signed into law the most intrusive antigun
package in New York history and was dubbed by the AP story as a "supporter
of abortion rights." Both Pataki positions are contrary to the stated platform
of the Conservative Party.
Apparently the Conservative Party Platform is not worth the paper its
printed on, just a bunch of empty words with nothing to back them up. Many gun
owners have consider the Conservative Party a home we could depend on, it looks
like were being kicked out of the house.
The following is contact information for Michael Long, Chairman of the
Conservative Party of New York State: 486 78th Street, Brooklyn,
NY 11209, telephone (718) 921-2158, fax (718) 921-5268.
You can also email the party: cpnys@nycap.rr.com,
or go to their web site: http://www.cpnys.org
Call Mike Long and politely ask him to return the party to the
principles it was founded on.

Mr. Michael Long,
Chairman
New York State Conservative Party
486 78th Street
Brooklyn, New York 11209
Dear Mike:
I am not sure
if you remember me but we spoke briefly at lunch during the Conservative
Party Conference last February.
I am writing to
let you know how disappointed I am at a recent Associated Press (AP)
story, which characterized you as an ally of Governor Pataki. It has
always been my understanding that the Second Amendment and the right
to life of unborn children were important issues to the Conservative
Party.
Apparently though,
given your partys recent support of Rick Lazio and now Governor
Pataki, I assume we can expect those planks to be removed from the party
platform.
Gun owners will
be prepared to oppose Governor Pataki in 2002, even if it means supporting
his Democrat opponent. This governor has done nothing to try and smooth
over the damage he has done. In fact, he seems intent on rubbing our
noses in it whenever he has the opportunity. I use for example his address
to this years Mothers Day Million Mom rally held in Westchester
County.
Once before you
told me you interpreted a letter, I sent to you as a threat. You have
my assurances that as then, this letter is not a threat, but a declaration
of political reality. I extend my concerns to you with respect and admiration
for what the Conservative Party has always stood for and in hope that
the tradition continues.
I do hope you
are willing to discuss this at some time in the future.
Sincerely,
Timothy P. Andrews, Sr.
