Shooters Committee on Political Education

In the wake of the horrific mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, more than 55 New York State Legislators presented a letter to legislative leaders urging them to pass a state plan to add more gun control on the citizens of New York..

These Assembly members and State Senators unveiled an eight point plan to Assembly and Senate leadership and  they believe the time has come for  law abiding gun owners to give up some of their liberties for the collective common good.

They believe the  public is in shock following last week’s massacre and the time is now to take full advantage of the situation. The plan, which the coalition urges be passed when the legislature convenes, whether it be next week or in January, includes the following measures:

  •  Require Universal Background Checks on the Sale of All Guns Our Position
  •  Strengthen Assault Weapons Ban Our Position
  •  Strengthen High Capacity Ammunition Magazine Ban Our Position
  •  Require Microstamping to Help Law Enforcement Solve Gun Crimes. Our Position
  •  Require Gun Licenses to be Renewed Every 5 Years Our Position
  •  Improve Gun Dealer Regulations Our Position
  •  Regulate Ammunition Sales    Our Position
  •  Limit Personal Gun Purchases to One a Month Our Position

Many of these proposals have been longstanding bills in the legislature and have been examined by SCOPE.  You can read our position statements which have not changed..
